After the main locality Castelrotto village, Siusi allo Sciliar is the second largest village belonging to the municipal territory of Castelrotto, comprising some 2,000 inhabitants. Boasting the main characteristics of a mountain village, it provides a particular atmosphere, which has already been appreciated by celebrities such as Max Valier, Sigurd Ibsen, Arturo Toscanini, one of the most famous conductors of his time, and many aristocrats. As a matter of fact, Siusi is one of the most long-standing holiday destinations of Tyrol.
Located at the highplateau of the Sciliar, Siusi offers everything your heart might desire: hiking paths in the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park, climbing routes, the San Vigilio-Siusi golf club, perfect groomed ski slopes, toboggan runs and horse-drawn carriage rides across an impressive summer and winter landscape. A particularly popular hiking destination is the Geologist’s Trail, running its course from the healing medical spring of Bagni di Razzes in the sheadow of the Sciliar, snaking up to the Alpe di Siusi. By the way, a state-of-the-art funicular takes you also directly from Siusi onto the famous alp.
Those who are interested in culture can visit the different churches of Siusi, such as the Mary Help of Christians Church in the village centre, still a popular place of pilgrimage, the Castelvecchio Ruin, once upon a time in possession of the minne singer Oswald von Wolkenstein, as well as the Salego Ruin.
