The village of Tisana, in German called Tisens, a component locality of the large-scale municipality of Castelrotto, lies on the sunny slopes in the west of the main locality Castelrotto village and has got some 170 inhabitants. The church at its centre is consecrated to St Nicholas. Worth noticing is above all the sky-blue ceiling in the nave. On the external walls, however, there is a huge fresco illustrating St Christopher.
The Cima Santner, Mt Sciliar and Mt Bullaccia form the impressive backdrop of the village, furthermore there are also three hills around Tisana which are called "Kofel" (hill of Castelrotto), Percol and Katzenloch. In former times a number of hill forts could be found in this area. For those who love hiking, Tisana offers walks to Castelrotto and the area of the Radlmoos as well as a wide variety of hikes to Castel Forte near Ponte Gardena and to Tagusa with its School Museum (path n. 1). To make a long story short, Tisana is kind of a holiday insider's tip, not only due to its tranquil location and its vicinity to the main village Castelrotto.
