On the road from Fiè allo Sciliar to Tires al Catinaccio, there is the little village of Santa Caterina located above the Tires valley

Santa Caterina, belonging to the municipality of Fiè allo Sciliar, is a small settlement, nevertheless it has an own church. Santa Caterina, including the upper farms of the hamlet Briè, located at its feet, has a total of 150 inhabitants. The centre round the St Catherine Church with its frescos from the 15th century is located at about 890 m a.s.l. The beautiful fresco cycle depicts 11 scenes of the life and the martyrdom of St Catherine. The village has several highlights to offer to those who love hiking and mountaineering.
Santa Caterina marks the eastern starting point of the "Oachner Höfeweg", the circular route leading to the farms on the slopes of Aica di Fiè and Presule. Those, however, who aim higher, can climb Mt Cavone, Mt Balzo (1,834 m) or Mt Croda del Maglio (2,128 m) in the Sciliar massif. Furthermore, only 2 km in the east of the hamlet, there is the municipality of Tires al Catinaccio. So if you would like to take a closer look at the legendary Dolomite mountain with its Vajolet Towers, you absolutely do not have to travel far.
