The municipality of Tires al Catinaccio with its villages of San Cipriano, Brié, Bagni di Lavina Bianca and Tires village is located in the magic realm of King Laurin
Tires, inhabited by some 960 people, stretches at an altitude of 700 to 3,002 m. Hardly could the position of a municipality be more picturesque, as it extends at the foot of the Catinaccio Group, in the legendary realm of King Laurin, protagonist of Dolomite sagas. Indeed it is him to dip-paint the mountain range with the distinctive outline in rose at sunrise and sunset, the famous enrosadira. By the way: the highest forested hill of Europe, the 1,756 m high Montalto di Nova, is also located in the municipal territory.
Parts of the municipality are located in the protected area of the Sciliar-Catinaccio Nature Park, providing ideal grounds for walking and hiking as well as an innumerable number of other outdoor activities. What you should not miss is a stop at the info point of the nature park that can be found at the entrance of the Ciamin valley, in a former water-run Venetian saw mill. In winter, the cabrio cable car brings you directly from San Cipriano to the Frommer hut, in the skiing area of Carezza. Moreover the surroundings of Tires al Catinaccio are perfect for snow-shoeing, tobogganing or winter walking.
