At the village entrance of Tires as well as in the hamlet of San Vigilio an old but fully functioning water mill is located

In the Via San Giorgio road in Tires al Catinaccio (Tiers am Rosengarten), located at approx. 1,000 m a.s.l., a restored and fully functioning mill can be found. It is a water mill with a big millstone where in former times flour was milled.
In addition to the churches and chapels as well as the Sciliar-Catinaccio information point, the old water mill is one of the places to see in Tires and its surroundings. At the mill the 4.5 km long Tires Farm Trail starts, which leads you through an interesting natural and cultural landscape to the St. Catherine Church in the eponymous hamlet of Santa Caterina.
Another functioning water mill is situated in San Vigilio, a hamlet near Siusi allo Sciliar (Seis am Schlern). The history of the Malenger Mill at the shores of the Rio Freddo brook (in the picture) dates back to the 15th century, but it is assumed that the little building with its two big millstones is much older. Since 2013 a tavern is located nearby.
