Literally, the South Tyrolean word "Kuchlkastl" means food storeroom. In former times, the local farmers' wives and housewives kept their food supplies in the so-called "Kuchlkastl". Today, "Völser Kuchlkastl" is the name of the Culinary Festival of Fiè allo Sciliar, held every year in the month of October. All those of you who like modern cuisine based on old traditional recipes will be delighted!
Every year since 1978, in autumn the participating restaurants invite everybody to taste and enjoy typical South Tyrolean dishes such as "Brennsuppe" (gruel), buckwheat noodles and mutton, reinterpreted and seasoned with fresh vegetables, alpine herbs, local mushrooms and plenty of other natural ingredients.
