The dialectal word "Hoazetkuchl" literally means "Wedding Cuisine". Every year, at the famous "Country Wedding in Castelrotto", several exquisite traditional dishes are prepared according to very old original recipes and offered in the restaurants of the area. The event takes place each year in January and offers not only culinary delicacies, but also a widely-attended parade.
In the olden days a peasant wedding was celebrated with dishes like Tyrolean grey cheese with onions (the traditional "Vormas", that is to say the peasant breakfast), followed by the "Hochzeits-Pfandl" (that is to say the wedding pan) with beans and potatoes, also by dumplings and "Plent" (polenta), or by meat and potatoes with coleslaw salad with bacon and caraway, a dish called "Bauerngröstl".
Furthermore there are also many delicious desserts like the traditional Krapfen from Castelrotto, "Buchteln" (sweet rolls made of yeast dough) with vanilla sauce or jam, and "Strauben" (funnel cake) with apple sauce or jam. These dishes make one's mouth water, don't they?
