Already our ancestors used this method of walking on snow for wildlife feeding or in order to reach mountain refuges. In fact they used snow shoes not to sink into the snow, but to remain on the surface. Out of this method of walking a fantastic sport has been developed: snowshoeing.
The wide highlands of the Alpe di Siusi and the surroundings of Tires al Catinaccio are the perfect place to try snowshoeing, as it makes you experience the surrounding landscape in a really intense way. Snowshoeing is not only in line with the trend, it is also real fun and healthy. Snowshoes facilitate walking on the snow thanks to an adjustable binding and metal spikes used for extra grip. They are light-weight in order to make you fully enjoy your walk across a fairytale-like winter landscape.
50 km of marked snowshoe trails take you to the Ciamin valley or to Mt Catinaccio. The mountain huts invite to a stop and the unforgettable view on the Dolomites is included, of course.
